If you read my earlier posts this spring you'll remember that a mama duck made her home in the flower pot beneath this old tree stump at P&B Garden. She stayed for several weeks, giving us plenty of time to watch her, worry about her, and adjust to having an unexpected resident in the garden.Having a duck here was more work than what we expected, but it also became one of the highlights of our spring of 2026. When Mama Duck and her ducklings moved on, the garden became a little quiet and empty.
For my birthday, Brian sent me this “Duck Crossing” sign. We hung it on the stump, which is now once again surrounded by flowers, marking the spot where Mama Duck and her ducklings lived. The sign is now our rememberance of unexpected garden visitors, a thoughtful gift from my son, and a spring we will not soon forget. I still miss Mama Duck and hope she and her family are doing well. She gave her ducklings a safe place to begin, kept them close, and eventually led them through the garden gate. That is what a Mama tries her very best to do.
